Melody Jean Moulton (b.1980) is a self-taught artist from California. While born and raised in Humboldt County, she has called San Diego home since 2002. All of her paper collage artwork is cut by hand and largely intuition based. Letting go of expectations and going with her gut has proven to be her most potent path of creating.
Driven by the freedom from preconceived notions and surrendering to her instincts, Moulton's creative process unfolds organically, guided by an innate sense of exploration and supreme attention to detail. Her artwork often embodies a surreal and dreamlike quality, intricately weaving together disparate elements that draw you in and make you want to keep looking to find out more.
In July of 2020, amidst the height of the global pandemic, Moulton took a big risk and left her part-time bartending gig to open Trash Lamb Gallery, an unconventionally-curated art gallery and gift shop located in the historic South Park neighborhood of San Diego.
After four magical but very difficult years of keeping a brick and mortar afloat, Moulton chose to shutter her permanent gallery space in January 2025. She is currently transitioning Trash Lamb into an online and nomadic mode of operation and will be bringing Trash Lamb Gallery in its physical form to Joshua Tree in June of 2025 for a month long, in-person rendezvous in the California high desert.
Moulton’s own artwork has been on view at many esteemed venues such as La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles, La Matadora Gallery in Joshua Tree, Baton Rouge Gallery in Louisiana, and Brassworks Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
